In chess, it all begins with a pawn. The smallest, the most unassuming, the one we sacrifice without a second thought. And yet, it is the pawn that opens the game.
Here, it stands in pale stone, motionless, bound by its rules. Around it, the olive tree asks no one’s permission. It winds, it blossoms, it ripens its fruit at its own pace, without a care for the square it occupies.
The first piece in the L’Échiquier sauvage (The Wild Chessboard) series, where the game meets the living world. The next move is still to be played.
